Uber is becoming a valid form of employment for those who want to work for themselves. This new concept allows individuals to earn money from the comfort of their own cars. There are very few prerequisites you will need to get started. You will need a car and valid car insurance and an Uber driver account. You will then be able to get behindthe wheel and start making money. Even though this is all that you will need to get started, you should also have a working knowledge of your area. Your knowledge of the area should include when the best times to work uber are. Keep in mind you will be burning gas and spending your time waiting unpaid unless you have a rider. Make sure to plan and take this into consideration as the main goal is to provide income.

You will be able to find out the best drive times by searching forums or watching the Uber application. For the most money in the least amount of riders you are looking to be available during “Surge Hours”. Surge Hours is what Uber calls the times when there are heavy requests for rides. Usually, this is after 8 PM on the weekends through when the bars close that night. Surge pricing will be in effect meaning the cost of the fare will at least double. In some instances, this Surge pricing has more than tripled the fare costs. Meaning that one fare could be the equal of 4 rides during non-surge hours. Keep in mind surge hours not only come from time of day but also the location of the rider. So you will only get the surge pricing if you are picking up the fare from the Surge location.  If your goal is to make the most money in the shortest amount of trips you should plan your nights around the expected surge hours.

The other ideas to consider for best timing is what currently works for your schedule. If you work a 9-5 Monday through Friday then the midday crowd is not your best option. Yet, there are usually a lot of people needing early morning rides to the airport for 5 am flights.  You need to figure out what works best for you. If you are not used to late nights then the Surge bar rush is not for you. People will always need to get to their next location. There will always be something you will be able to find to work with your schedule.

Sometimes the best times to work uber are the ones you create. You can create lasting customers through great customer service and make yourself available. You might be willing to handle the early morning airport rides.  You could setup an appointment to pickup the same businessman creating guaranteed income. You could drive a grandmother to run her errands every Friday afternoon. There are endless possibilities where you can create contacts. With this approach even if you are never available for “Surge hours” you will be able to make a solid living.
