Alfa Romeo’s 5-Series Rival Reportedly Delayed Until 2021

Last June, we reported that Alfa Romeo was readying a larger sedan to slot above the Giulia and compete against cars like the BMW 5-Series and Mercedes E-Class.

Initially, we heard that this sedan would arrive in 2018, but according to a new report, it seems that’s no longer the case. A report from Automotive News, published today, says that Alfa’s upcoming 5-Series fighter has been delayed until 2021.

Previously, we heard this new 5-Series fighter would share components with the smaller Giulia, potentially including the 503-horsepower twin-turbo V6 found in the wonderfully capable Quadrifoglio model.

With the news FCA will be using an upgraded version of the Giulia’s platform on the next Maserati Ghibli sedan, this has us wondering: Does the company really need two versions of the same car competing in the same class?
