Ford just took the wraps off a Ranger concept truck called the Storm at the Sao Paulo International Motor Show. This concept truck joins the Volkswagen Tarok Concept pickup just revealed in Brazil too. The Ranger Storm looks like an off-road ready truck, though, similar to the Ranger Raptor we won’t be getting in the U.S.
It’s based on the Ranger Limited trim, but that didn’t stop Ford from making it look as hardcore as a Raptor. The front grille gets giant “Storm” lettering — not unlike the massive “Ford” lettering on the Raptor. In addition to that, a snorkel, 17-inch wheels and Pirelli Scorpion all-terrain tires enhance the off-road appeal.
Tons of body graphics and large black plastic body cladding make it even more outlandish. The silver roof racks actually extends into the bed area and functions as a rear sports bar of sorts with a couple grab handles. It’s different looking, and we don’t dislike it. The truck transitions from orange to black as you travel along to the rear quarter panel too. That might be a bit much, but this is a concept truck anyway.
What this Ranger Storm concept doesn’t have is the Raptor’s engine. Instead of the 2.0-liter four-cylinder diesel, it has the 3.2-liter five-cylinder oil burner.
This engine puts out 197 horsepower and 346 pound-feet of torque. We’re also missing any kind of an off-road suspension on this truck too. It’s a true shame, because this truck sure does a convincing job of looking the part. Ford won’t ever bring this truck in this configuration to the U.S. but we sure do dig the concept. Brazilian trucks get a thumbs up from us.
