Faraday Future Unveils Its Zero1 Concept At 2016 CES

Faraday Future officially revealed of its FFZero1 concept at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. The FFZero1 is a single-seat race car that, it’s likely, will quickly become an object of desire for car fans worldwide.

Faraday Future Zero1 At 2016 CES

The FFZero1 concept is a test bed and a parallel study from which FF’s design and engineering teams will draw inspiration and solutions for the future range of clean, intuitive electric vehicles.

Realistically, the FFZERO1 is not going to be Faraday Future’s first production car — instead, they’re using it to show off the potential that Faraday sees in its upcoming billion-dollar Nevada factory.

The FFZero1 rides on FF’s new Variable Platform Architecture (VPA) on which it will base all its future cars. This allows for not only easy replacement but also for varying power and range options.

By creating a modular architecture where strings of batteries run along the bottom, it’s possible to expand or contract the wheelbase at a whim. In addition, there are various motor configurations, offering between one and four depending on the need.

Inside the FFZero1, the steering column has been fitted with a smartphone and the headrest has a port baked into the back that pumps air and water into the driver’s crash helmet. This allows it to become the focal point for the interface between the driver and the car — from sitting behind the wheel or from inside the owner’s home. When commanded by that smartphone, the autonomous FFZero1 can come retrieve the driver.

FF’s designer Richard Kim consulted with NASA to learn that the seating position should be 45-degrees, apparently the perfect angle for driver comfort.

FFZero1 concept projected specifications:

Powertrain
–  4 Quad Core Motors with over 1,000 horsepower
–  0-60 in less than 3 seconds
–  Top speed: +200MPH

Interior
–  Single seat occupancy surrounded by newly developed high-performance materials
–  A fully-connected car featuring intuitive UI for integration between virtual and head-up displays
–  Smartphone-connected remote vehicle setup and anticipatory personalization; capable of live analysis of vehicle systems

Exterior
–  Innovative carbon fiber and lightweight composite construction
–  Advanced high performance racing suspension
–  Advanced vehicle dynamic control and torque vectoring
– Radically reduced drag and battery cooling through aero tunnel design

Faraday Future first landed on the auto industry’s radar last year, when the company opened an office in Southern California, and started hiring a bevy of auto and tech industry talent from places like Tesla, Ford, GM, BMW, and SpaceX.
