Fisker Automotive and Technology Group will open a U.S. manufacturing plant for the relaunch of its Karma plug-in hybrid sedan in Moreno Valley, California.

The city of Moreno Valley confirmed that Fisker Automotive planned to build a 555,670 square-foot factory in the municipality east of Los Angeles.

Fisker, which conducted a nationwide search for a U.S. production site, did not indicate when output would begin. Financial terms of the deal were not immediately available.

The city said the site will also feature a Fisker showroom and provide tours of the plant. About 150 jobs will be created as part of the project, the city said.

China’s Wanxiang Group Corp. purchased the assets of the bankrupt Fisker Automotive Holdings Inc. for $149.2 million in 2014.

The original Karma was built in Finland, but the vast majority of its sales were actually in the Golden State, so it makes sense that the reborn range-extending sedan, which may go by the name “Elux,” would move closer to its biggest fans.

Fisker Chief Marketing Officer James Taylor said “California’s natural beauty, trend setting, technology, and environmental focus are perfectly aligned with our Karma re-launch.”
